Artists throughout the region are coming to North End for one month only to participate in North End Gallery's 2024 Annual Invitational Show.
The combination of one or more of art materials creates non-traditional and unique artworks. The mixture of different styles and techniques, local imagery and creative inspiration forms a mix from traditional to abstract artwork. The range of materials used includes clay, paint and pastels, wood, textiles, glass and metal along with jewelry and fiber entries.
Some artists voice their world views, while others always impress the viewer with their independent style and artistic personality. Vibrant to quiet and something in between -- this yearly February event showcases new, regional work not to be missed.
Show opens on Tuesday, January 30th, with the reception and opportunity to meet the guest artists on Friday, February 2, from 5 pm to 8pm. The show runs through the 25th of February. Join us!

The passing of John Romita Sr last week was incredibly sad news. We went to see John Romita Jr in Baltimore and were lucky enough, at the Hero's Initiative table, to meet so many incredible Marvel Comics people! He is picture here with his son and the amazing Herb Trimpe. John was so nice and generous with his time. The panel with Stan Lee that day was comic gold!

I did work for Darth Vader himself, Mr. David Prowse a few years ago. Upon his death, I always wondered what happened to the artwork. I came across a post about Mr. Prowse Estate sale and, of course, I wandered down that rabbit hole to be surprised when I saw this! Sad that it is not with Mr. Prowse anymore BUT I'm glad it is going to a new Star Wars Fan's home!

The 2022 WATCH award nominations were announced this past Sunday night and I'm happy to report that I have been nominated for Outstanding Set Painting in a Musical for both Beauty and The Beast and Hello Dolly! A lot of Hardwork went into painting the sets and I couldn't have done it all myself, a huge THANK YOU to everyone, especially Connie, Chip, Gabbi, and Brian, who came out and helped make these sets beautiful! Port Tobacco Players Theater was nominated for 23 nominations, showcasing the amazing talent in our area! Congrats to all our nominees!

We were watching the new Disney Plus documentary on Boba Fett called "Under The Helmet". While watching we were so excited and amazed to see our Boba Fett Pyrography piece that we gifted to Jeremy Bulloch back in 2018! Jeremy was always so sweet to our family since we met him in 2010. This was our gift to him and it is so amazing to see that it was hanging at his desk and can be seen at the 12 minute mark of the documentary. What a thrill to have a small piece of artwork in the Star Wars universe!

Getting to meet and talk to Stan Lee has been a highlight of our wood burning adventure. I was amazed that Stan was "Stan". His persona wasn't an act, it was who he was. He was really nice to Katie and I. I'm so glad we got to spend some time with him which I never imagined possible growing up reading his comic creations, waiting for his movie cameos (which got better with each movie), or listening to his introduction of Spiderman/Hulk cartoons on Saturday mornings. Playing Marvel Lego videos games with the kid is special when we hear Stan's voice! Thank you sir for what you gave to the comic community!-M

Over Labor day weekend the DC area hosted Star Wars collectors from all over. It was a fantastic experience meeting everyone. We were lucky enough to be part of "Tom's Fabulous Star Wars Bazaar". It was great to hang out with Blue Milk Special and Cuddlewithcats!

Awesome con is coming! The end of May will be here soon so it is time to gear up and get some burnings done to have signed and make prints of for the show! Va Comic Con was a lot of fun this past weekend! Thank you to everyone who stopped by!! Got to meet the voice of Jem and the Holograms, GI Joe creator Larry Hama, and amazing artist Jae Lee!
And as a bonus got to see one of the most impressive collectibles I have ever seen. A 7 foot long Spider-man banner signed on the front and back by every artist and writer imaginable! I wonderful piece of history!!

Just got back and what a wonderful surprise! Mr. Peter Mayhew was at the Comic Con today! I got worthy praise from Chewbacca himself when I asked him to sign the wood! He really liked the burning and said it would look great in his bag lol. I have Chewie prints and Mr. Mayhew will be there all weekend. He said they are just taking a break from filming Episode 7 so he decided he could make the show!

We snuck off to Philly Wizard World comic-con. If you see us say hi! This was unplanned but there are so many cool peeps to go see! We will surprise the kid with Matt Smith and Karen Gillan!

First, I want to THANK everyone who stopped by the booth this weekend! There were so many people and we had such a good time talking to everyone. THANK YOU so much!
On day Day 3, Mr. Hudson learned what happens when we become friends, we quickly become stalkers as we attacked him after the show and Katie got a picture with him dressed as Fiona. I walked the kid over to see Ms. Erin Gray (Buck Rogers, Silver Spoons Fame). Mr Dirk Benedict (Starbuck for Galactica, and Face from the A-Team) signed our Battlestar Galactica Cylon Wood Burning! What a joy it was to talk to him about the show, different trees, and I learned he lives in Montana! He was very candid and was having a great time with the fans! It was extremely hard to get to Carol or Michonne. We did get close to T-Dogg and he was having a great time with the crowd. Katie got a quick picture with Veronica Taylor the voice for Ash on Pokémon. She was headed to lunch but was kind enough to pose with Katie!
Day 2, WOW! What a busy day! I got to meet Dirk Benedict, Starbuck and Face from the A-Team first thing in the morning. Then ran into Ms. Erin Gray from Buck Rogers and Silver Spoons, she was kind enough to shake my hand and talk a little. There were so many people in attendance today! The wife got to meet Ron Glass and Jewel Staite and had them sign her Serenity wood burning.
And of course the kid got to meet Billie Piper (Rose from Dr Who)!
I almost forgot, we also met legendary comic Artists George Perez and Joe Rubenstein!

Unfortunately, Olivia Olson had to cancel but Mr. Jim Cummings is taking her place! We first met Jim in Orlando this summer. He is a great guy and very personable. We will have Tigger/Pooh and Hondo prints available for sale if you'd like to pick them up to have signed!

The show was fantastic! Here are pictures of our booth and other geeky-ness. We were excited to see and talk to everyone that stopped by. A big thanks to everyone for making it a special weekend. We got a lot of great feedback and suggestions, so thank you!
We got very fortunate to meet The Comic Book Men (Walt, Bryan, Ming, and Mike). We were in line durning filming and had to sign paperwork, so fingers crossed we will make the show! Walt Flanagan and Mike Zapcic both stopped by our booth for a few minutes and said we had some really cool stuff. I got them all, including Rob Bruce, to sign a blank piece of wood so we can burn in pictures later.
Mr. Mike Mignola, creater of Hellboy, signed The Incredible Hulk wood burning and said "Well, thats interesting". Thanks to him for taking the time to do that for us!
